Differences between ryokan and hotel

Generally, accommodations that are said to be ryokan in Japan are Japanese-style accommodations in tatami rooms.

If it is a famous ryokan, it will cost from $250 per night to over $1,000 per night, and there are some reasonable ryokans that cost less than $100 per night.

If you are looking for a more affordable accommodation, there are many Western business hotels.

You can also stay at a hostel or dormitory at a more reasonable price. Japanese hostels and dormitories are relatively safe.

If you want to stay at a popular luxury ryokan, there is no such ryokan in Osaka, so we recommend staying in Kyoto next to Osaka. It takes about 1 hour by train from Osaka to Kyoto.
