When and how was Tokyo Skytree built?
Construction started in 2008, and after approximately three and a half years of construction, Skytree opened in 2012.
Tokyo Tower has been used as an existing radio tower since before, but high-rise buildings lined up around Tokyo Tower, causing a problem that it was difficult for radio waves to reach the shadowed area.
In order to solve this problem, and also to make it possible for citizens to comfortably watch broadcasts for mobile devices such as One Seg and multimedia broadcasting, Tokyo Skytree was built.
Furthermore, there is a camera (height 260m) to detect fires etc. at the time of disaster, and its role is expected as a tower with a disaster prevention function that has a storage warehouse such as food. Its height was determined to be 634 m, As a result of aiming for the world’s highest freestanding radio tower.
This sequence of numbers can be read as “Musashi” in Japanese. “Musashi (武蔵)” is one of the old Japanese country names and refers to a wide area including Tokyo, Saitama and some parts of Kanagawa. It is a very familiar name for Japanese people.
The height of Tokyo Tower is 333m, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office is 243m.
